As barbecue grows in popularity, the competition for customers fires some intense creativity.  There's also no substitution for good old-fashion know how.  Classics are classics for a reason, and, when done well, hold their own.  From grandma's family recipe to scientific concoctions from formally trained chefs, there are ton's of mind-blowing, mouth watering bites that you have to try.  Below the most delicious, most unusual, and most chase worthy delights in Alabama.  Enjoy and let me know what you think deserves to be on this list.  I love chasing down a good lead!

There's no rhyme or reason to this list, just 10+ menu items from

around the state that blew me away!

The Big Jim sandwich with fries and a Coke.  This is where it all started for me.

Giant baked potato with sour cream, cheese, and chopped pork.  Ask for the

white sauce instead of the red.

Greens over McEwen and Sons cheese grits topped with pulled pork, red sauce, and onion rings.

Collards course cut, firm and transformed into something truly unique.

Get it on a sandwich and pour that velvety white sauce all over it.

Course ground grits sandwiched between two slices of cheese and smoked to deliciousness.

Home-made custard, sliced bananas & vanilla wafers topped off with an

original banana Moon Pie.

Try picking it up by the bone.  It'll pull out clean. Genuine fall-off-the-bone goodness.

Beautiful blend with kick-butt flavor but not too sweet.

The godfather of all barbecue sauces, served hot with sliced white bread.

Good enough for a meal all on its own.

All of their desserts are great but the coconut pie is king!  The best we've ever had.  Thick center, baked meringue, and shredded coconut throughout.

Is it a side?  Is it dessert?  I don't know but it's southern charm on a plate.

All TABC lists are living, breathing entities.  They may change frequently based on reader recommendations and my own personal discoveries.  Thoughts and suggestions are always welcome so don't be shy.  We're all in this together!
